Homeschool Park Day

Every Wednesday, rain or shine, Homeschool families from all around the county come together to play, socialize, and support each other. We rotate through the Bellingham parks, occasionally venturing out further in the county. The location is chosen each week by one of our moms and emailed to families usually on the preceding Sunday. Newcomers are always welcome and encouraged! To get on the list, contact Sara: saraadennis@msn.com. Alternatively, you can request to join our facebook group where it is posted weekly.

Park Day has been an ongoing event for over 17 years in Whatcom County. It started with a mom looking to connect with other homeschoolers and has evolved into a much loved and looked forward to event for many homeschool children and parents alike. We have all ages, from little babies to highschoolers and beyond! You will usually find the younger children running around the play structure while the older kids tend to group together to play field games or walk around and chat. The parents and grandparents can be found on the “sidelines” talking amongst themselves while watching the kids play.

Sometimes we have just a few families and other times we seem to fill the whole park! Either way, the kids always have a great time and we really do have a wonderful group of children that we get to watch grow up together. We are a friendly bunch and love to see new people, so please feel welcome to join us!

For the kids:
This is a great chance for your child to experience that “recess” feel, get exercise, spend time in an unstructured way with a variety of kids, and make friends that often extend beyond the weekly meet-up. The children often organize games or activities between themselves. It’s also a unique chance for them to reach out and expand their circles.

For the adults:
We often discuss homeschool topics, events and activities, and struggles and successes we have in our journey. But beyond that, you will get out of the house (fresh air!), take a break from teaching, likely make friends, learn something new, and enjoy some adult conversations.

Come play with us!

PS. Do you live in the eastern part of the county (Lynden, Sumas, Everson, Nooksack, Kendall, Maple Falls, Acme, Glacier)? If driving all the way to Bellingham is a little much every week, there’s a park day specially for you! See our East County Park Day event!
