Terms of Accepted Events
In general, calendar events should be open to all homeschoolers without discrimination, not be an advertisement for a business, and not be ongoing, repeating events.
Details:
Homeschoolers of Whatcom is a single-subject group about the topic of homeschooling. All calendar items must in some way support the homeschooling journey as a resource, class, field trip, or educational experience. Homeschooling parents who are offering a calendar event may post anything of interest to homeschoolers, subject to the website manager’s approval. This calendar is not intended for ongoing classes at local businesses like dance, gymnastics and music, but one-time events specifically of interest to homeschoolers will be considered.
Examples of great calendar events to add:
Homeschool day at the Woodland Park Zoo, a field trip you’re creating to the Pacific Science Center, a class you’re teaching about sewing, a documentary about owls being shown at the library downtown, homeschool skate day at the local rink, math club and a homeschool dance. Local one-time events of interest like an art festival or a bee-keeping discussion are welcome.
Examples of things that won’t be approved:
A dance studio that offers classes to all children and has classes every day, unless the classes are specific to homeschoolers. Art classes run by a studio that take place every week that are open to all children. Anything that repeats two or three times a week, every week. Anything that requires ongoing tuition or membership.
This is pretty flexible: We want to build a calendar that is open to all but not overwhelmed so people can’t find what they’re looking for. Please ask for clarification if needed!
If you don’t see your event on the site within a week of submitting, we may have decided it was not appropriate for our group calendar.
Thank you for understanding!
